Since it’s Thursday, I went to my local coffee shop this morning to pick up a small Chai before heading to work for a weekly meeting. It was a nice visit. They opened in July and today was the first time that one of the baristas remembered my name. But you’re not reading this because of any of that. So back to the story, two of the baristas were discussing a divisive Thanksgiving side. Is the green bean casserole was the best or worst Thanksgiving side dish?
Since it’s a matter of taste, they decided to poll the customers. I didn’t realize green bean casseroles are such a divisive Thanksgiving side dish. I guess most people have strong feelings about green bean casseroles. But I’m not most people. So they made a new category because of me: undecided. I swear it’s not as bad as that sounds. I think green bean casseroles are okay. I’m not going out of my way to get it but I don’t hate it either. In my opinion there are better and worse Thanksgiving sides.
I found out the stranger behind me hates green bean casseroles. The barista asked the obvious follow up question, “What is your favorite side?” His answer was interesting though. It was nothing. He’s just there for the turkey.
So back to the question of the day. Is the green bean casserole the best or the worst Thanksgiving side? I wish I could get a scientific poll going to find out.
Not that you asked, but my favorite Thanksgiving side is stuffing. Followed very closely by canned cranberry sauce. Gotta have those disks with ridges, just like mom always made them!
