Disclaimer: I thought it would be better (more cost effective) to use iStock’s AI Generator tool to generate AI images rather than paying for iStock photos. I signed up for a month but am already frustrated using this for a day. I probably won’t continue next month because I don’t know that it’s worth the price considering how much time I need to spend to generate an image that I feel is passable.
So for funsies, let me share some of the prompts I wrote and some of the results I got (only the weirdest ones, of course!)
For the featured image
(the one above the title), I used this prompt: “white bald man in suit with red tie standing with arms crossed in front of see through fence with vertical rusted iron slats with brown hill far in background.” But somehow, the image managed to have the man standing between two fences. It looks like he’s the one being jailed, haha.
Prompt: “split screen with two paths”
I think this image is pretty cool, but it was not what I was expecting for a split screen with two paths. Maybe I’ll use it again later for something else.
Prompt: “people whispering to each other”
I guess I could have specified that one person was listening while the other person was whispering. This looks like nobody is listening. And what’s up with the eyelashes?
Prompt: “a desk viewed from above. there are office supplies neatly arranged in a grid”
There’s something that I guess is supposed to be a calendar? And maybe candy? I don’t know what that black thing on the left is, and why is the drink so red? Yikes!
Prompt: “letters, spelling out simple, on a chalkboard, viewed straight on”
I specified on a chalkboard but I guess I needed to expand and say written in chalk? Also, anytime I ask this AI for words it tends to come back with gibberish, even when I specifically say/spell the word I want in the image.
Prompt: “office cubicle”
Yes, this reminds me of the Barbie movie, but it also makes me glad that my (shared) cubicle has a door.
Prompt: “three branches of government”
Maybe they thought I said tree branches? At least there’s 3 trees.
And finally, Prompt: “ABC 123”
I don’t understand how this came to be! Why are the minced carrots in a mound? How does ABC 123 translate to food? Why 3/4 vegetables and 1/4 rice? Why no meat? Or dessert? Or drink(s)?
So as you can see, I’ve been having a frustrating day trying to prompt the AI to generate usable images and have been getting some weird responses. As I’ve said, I only paid for this for a month (with unlimited prompts and downloads) so after that’s done I’ll probably switch back to using free images (and crediting the artists). If I do use an AI generated image on this blog, I will caption it as AI generated.
